What we like - We are always looking for those people who think they have enough talent to do comic books, or to make money off of what they do. We are looking for teams or individuals who are interested in getting published, gaining exposure, and possibly making a little money along the way. We like people who are self starters, and people that can be handed a project and expected to work on it and get it done as quickly with as high a quality as possible. We like people who know how to share and who like to help out their fellow man. This is what builds greatness.
What we don't Like - Please check all of your ego's at the door. Chances are the head of the company has a big enough one for everyone, at any rate we do not want people who are not willing to help one another, or people that are greedy with their art, talents, information, or anything else. Dark Elf Designs will help shoulder the financial burdens of publishing and we expect the same thing in return for the next guy who comes along. This system will work extremely well if everyone help's each other. Teamwork is stressed, as well as self promotion and the promotion of other Dark Elf Products/ Titles/ Artists etc.
How to Submit to Dark Elf Designs
Dark Elf Designs accepts Submissions, as well as Proposals for new comic series. This refers to writing, inking, pencilling, lettering, or coloring samples. IMPORTANT: Since Dark Elf Designs publishes ONLY creator owned properties we do not hire paid freelancers at this time, rather that would be left up to the individual creator(s). Dark Elf Designs, Does not (currently) pay artists and/or creators anything, they "earn" their pay. they will recieve 62%-70% of the NET profits. As Dark Elf Designs acts as Agent, Publisher, Financier, Accountant, Public Relations, Printer, Web Designer, Copyrighter, Distributor and more, the amount we take is more than competitive it is unbeatable. As we are a very small company at present we cannot afford to offer page rates at this time, nor can we offer print runs of higher than 2000. Publishing is currently very limited is well, but as we are a ground floor creator controlled company, if patience is on your side you will grow with the company.
A Comic Submission/Proposal, should contain the following:
A type-written cover letter with all contact information (name, e-mail address, address, phone and fax numbers) clearly printed on the page. Introduce yourself. Please remember this is a job interview, politeness, professionalism, and spelling/punctuation count. We do not need a resume.
WRITERS/ CREATORS-
A typed ONE PAGE synopsis of the over-all STORY. As concisely and as succinctly as you are able,
TELL US THE STORY, make us interested. Please avoid questions as plot points ("what will so and so do when confronted with...?"), etc.
Character sketches of the main character(s) if possible, or applicable
The first five pages of the story (preferrably in comic form, or movie script style)
Note: sending stories in story form rather than the preferred format will not exclude you from becoming a writer for Dark Elf Designs.
For New TITLES or SERIES Proposals-
A one-page typed synopsis of what the overall series is about. Its duration (is it an on-going series or a finite series?), whether or not it will be a full color or a black and white book, etc. Please avoid hype-simply explain why we (or anyone else) would be interested in this series. Tell us what sets it apart from other comics and who the target audience is (sounds contradictory, we know).
If you include an email address with the proposal you will get a response, even if it's "no thanks". No unsolicited proposals will be returned.
We are not looking for any specific genre or type of comic book we are looking for comics that are well-written and well-drawn, by people who are dedicated and can meet deadlines.
ARTISTS/LETTERERS
8 1/2" x 11" photocopies of fully PENCILED(pencilers),and INKED(Inkers), COLORED(colorists) and LETTERED (Letterers) pages. How Many? Five fully inked and lettered pages will tell us all we need to know (if you wish to be a penciler include photocopies of the pencils). If we want to see more, we'll ask. We want to READ it! (We believe comics should be read). Color is optional(Unless your a colorist of course). If you have a colorist and can provide color pages -- great! Don't hire a colorist specifically for your proposal, however.
A cover mock-up (this let's us know whether or not you understand the market and gives us a good idea of your design sense).
Do not send character sketches/bios without a five-page sample of story and art.
PROPOSALS/SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. DO NOT INCLUDE A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE.
Please do not send unsolicited art submissions over the net, send hard copies to...
