Governor Jennifer Granholm
P.O. Box 30013
Lansing MI 48909
Dear Governor:
I am writing this letter to protest a recent policy adopted by the Michigan Friend of the
Court. This policy is having a direct effect on the children of Michigan, as well as
their parents. As a registered voter, I am writing to urge you to change this policy.
Friend of the Court is now charging a "processing fee, as well as a service fee" on
electronic child support payments, deposited in the guardian's checking account. These
exorbitant fees are now charged once every four months. In some cases, this amount
totals an entire child support payment, over the course of a year! This is extortion.
As a child advocate, you are well aware that children are our most precious resource.
Friend of the Court is no friend of the children it claims to protect. Madame Governor,
We urge you to challenge this policy, or at least reduce the payments to a once a month
reasonable fee. Michigan's economy is on a downward spiral, but leeching child support
funds is not the answer .
Since F .O.C. payments are done by electronic bank routing, there should be no need for
this extortion of our children's support payments. As parents/ caregivers, and registered
voters, we demand you take action to halt this appalling practice.
Sincerely,
Michigan Registered Voter:
